Faringdon Rugby Union Football Club - Grove Festival Report

Grove Festival 2 October 2005

The fair, dry, weather made for a great day, with 12 teams participating in the U8s competition.

This was our first competition of the season, and we found ourselves playing teams from much bigger clubs who had clearly played together before. Despite this, Faringdon did themselves proud, competing in every match.

The results were as follows (scores are tries).

Although we didn’t win any games, we should have won our drawn match (we led up to the last minute). The games against Witney A, Grove A and Gosford All Blacks were only lost by a single try. These games were really close fought, and could have gone either way. Our loss to Wallingford A (the eventual competition winners) came in our opening match, where we were still waking up to the speed of the game.

Everyone played really well as individuals, with some great end to end play. It was also really encouraging to see the team playing as a team, running fast & straight, supporting each other and defending across the pitch.

If we can do this well having only had four training sessions this season, then we can look forward positively to the competition at Bicester on the 6th November and the rest of the season.

Finally, a big thank you to Grove who loaned us two players, George & Amy, without whom we wouldn’t have been able to compete.
