A long time ago in a galaxy far away (sorry, wrong story!). In 2004 a group of parents who also just happened to be rugby enthusiasts decided that, due to the increasing popularity of the sport, Faringdon should have it’s own Rugby Union Football club for the children of the town and surrounding areas. Many great minds came together and Faringdon RUFC was born, initially operating as a satellite unit of Grove RFC.
To the delight of all the people involved, the club enjoyed a successful 2004-2005 season (including a memorable trip to Twickenham , where the senior club members played on the hallowed turf!) during which the number of youths regularly attending the Sunday morning training sessions steadily increased, with the ages of the participants ranging from 7 to 11 years old.
To ensure that the best possible coaching could be provided a number of parents undertook the official RFU coaching course and we now have 5 accredited coaches to provide the children with the skills and knowledge to enable them to play the game of rugby safely and with confidence.
The development of the child is the primary importance of the coaches and this element of coaching was paramount within the coaching course undertaken, alongside Child Safety and Child Protection. All our coaches and regular volunteer helpers also undergo a CRB check to provide parents/guardians with additional peace of mind.
The club existing purely on a voluntary basis, and to ensure that a ‘Sport 4 All’ program is maintained through a minimal financial requirement to the club members all our equipment, kit etc has been obtained through donations and sponsorship .
If you would be interested in sponsoring the club in any way then please contact us.
If you are associated with another rugby club and would like to arrange a fixture then please contact us.
